PLAN! Moving forward.....

It is Tuesday.  Mom has come so far since SUNDAY!  We have a PLAN for her to move forward!   Mom will move to a longterm acute hospital soon called Vibra Hospital of DeSoto.  We do not have a date for this yet, but anticipate it would be in a couple of days. The reason she is staying in a hospital facility is that they need to continue to administer IV antibiotics to fight the infection, and rehab facilities and assisted nursing facilities do not have the ability to do this. They think the infection was either viral meningitis or encephalitis, but will not be able to confirm since the spinal tap was unsuccessful. Once the infection is gone, she may be moved again to a rehab facility, or she could potentially go home and do outpatient rehab.  I'm really proud of Mom! She is doing much, much better since Sunday. She is now very coherent and back to her talkative self. Mom's fever is gone and her kidneys are also starting to improve. Her blood pressure and sug...

It's the THOUGHT that counts.

At this time Mom is in what is called a "Progressive Care Unit."  This is a step down from ICU.  This is where she landed Sunday when she had the stroke.  Apparently they say "no gifts". No flowers or food or anything.   Today I have been on the phone with Mom.  She is talking SO much today!  The doctors are worried about her swallowing ability.  She is drinking, but cannot eat food.  SO - tomorrow speech pathology will evaluate Mom.  Heidi is currently with Mom in the hospital and I am on her phone - or "in her ear" like she says.  Heidi is reading a GREAT story by Jude Deveraux "A Knight in Shining Armor."  This is one of my Daddy's favorite books.  I remember reading it in high school and being happy when I finished.  It is ALMOST like we are reading something and we are in the world.  Kind of like The Princess Bride.  Heidi, reading like the old man.  Telling a story that we can share today. ...

Please turn to page 33 in your hymnals.....

Growing up Church of Christ is an interesting thing.  Back when I was a child - every church still had the hymnals.  I remember that topics like projecting the words on a screen up at the front might be too contemporary.  And of course there has always been the argument for or against musical instruments.   I'm not here to debate the debates with you.  These are the songs I have carried in my heart since I was a child.  They have helped me through many tough AND joyful things!  There is nothing like a group - big or small - of Accappella singers all singing the different parts and enjoying praising God.   This morning EARLY - I called Daddy.  This is not unusual.  I usually call him daily on the way to elementary school about 6:45 every morning.  We are both morning people.  I am not sure anyone else on Earth would talk to me as early as my daddy picks up.   Today - for really the first time since Wedn...

Hello, Again....

Hello.  It's me.... Amy Clark.   Once again I come to this place to write about my mom's journey of health. If you want to see what happened before check out:  https://debbiefromm.blogspot.com/   That first link has her story about her brain tumor (2009) and then meningitis (2013).  So what's happening now.....let me catch you up.  Some of her troubles started back in January where she started having trouble with her eye sight and itching/pain in her back. Blindness runs in the family, both her grandmother and mom had Macular Degeneration so we had her tested for this. We also looked into shingles for the itching and pain.    Last week - Mom had been ok.  I saw her everyday while I worked with Daddy on taxes.  We often went to lunch together and we talked all day long. Saturday night - the night before the unexpected trip to the hospital she and Daddy had gone to Costco and walked all around.  They ate out.  All was o...
